Recent Lakers rumors have them linked to J.R. Smith. Here is why the Lakers should go ahead and sign him.
The Los Angeles Lakers have under a week to have a player signed to the roster via the buyout route to be eligible for the playoffs. As closer the deadline gets, the Lakers rumors now have the signing as a two-man race. Dion Waiters and J.R. Smith are two players that spent time on a LeBron James squad in Cleveland in the past and in the current Lakers rumors spotlight.
With the Los Angeles Lakers firmly stamped at the top of the Western Conference, Rob Pelinka did not want to mess with the roster chemistry set at the trade deadline. The buyout route seemingly was the plan all along. He’s already brought in Markieff Morris, who made his debut against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.
In 15 minutes, Morris scored 4 points, grabbed a rebound and blocked a shot. Welcome to the Los Angeles Lakers, Markieff Morris from Lake Show Life.
During the TNT telecast, Yahoo! Sports, Chris Haynes reported that the Los Angeles Lakers would be reaching out to Dion Waiters to gauge where he’s at physically and mentally. Well let the Lakers rumors begin. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst weighed in on his podcast.
"“I don’t know if Dion Waiters is an answer,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast. “They’re going to give Dion a look. They had a meeting with him last week. I expect they will have a workout with him in the short-term and see what kind of condition he’s in. “They’re mulling it over and it’s because they need some sort of perimeter player who can score a little bit.” “Dion doesn’t just have to convince the Lakers,” Windhorst said. “He has to convince LeBron.”"
Well according to LeBron’s IG post on February 20th, it looks like he doesn’t mind a J.R. Smith signing. Usually if you have a nickname from the star player, it’s usually a good thing. He was known as 911 for his ability to take and make shots.
With all of this subliminal information floating around, J.R. Smith should be the guy the Lakers sign for the playoffs. All playoff teams need that shooter that is not afraid to take tough shots in a pinch. If there is anyone on the market not named Jamal Crawford that can do that, it’s Smith.
The move to bring in Smith will be just as popular as the decision to bring in Dwight Howard in the offseason. No check that, it probably will be worse. When Lake Show Life thought it was a good idea one week before his workout and eventual signing, there were comments from readers dead set against it.
Oh well, time for the comment section to be flooded again with a word of advice to Rob Pelinka and the Los Angeles Lakers from Lake Show Life.
Do yourself a favor and sign J.R. Smith.
This website prides itself on not being politically correct or going with narratives to avoid criticism. Articles here are done with a lot of thought. We were right about Dwight Howard in the offseason down to the contract he signed and if J.R. is signed, we’ll be right again. Throughout history, championship teams need a live wire that comes up big in the playoffs. Metta World Peace anyone?
Before Lake Show Life makes its plea to the front office, it is important to remind Lakers Nation that if the team adds J.R. Smith or Dion Waiters, a player on the roster must be cut. The Lakers currently, have the NBA maximum of 15 players already. Most arrows point to Troy Daniels. The Los Angeles Lakers theoretically can use whatever’s left of the settlement to release him to pay Smith.
Let’s take care of the elephant in the room here. The infamous Finals gaffe!
