Recent Lakers rumors are they will be waiving Troy Daniels to allow him to find a new team and to create an open roster spot.
With the buyout period coming to an end, recent Lakers rumors have been about whether or not the Lakers will be adding a new player for the final playoff push.
Recently, the Lakers added Markieff Morris after he was bought out by the Detroit Pistons. Morris fills a need for the Lakers in the frontcourt, but they could also use another playmaking guard.
Two of the names that have been linked to the Lakers of late have been Dion Waiters and J.R. Smith. However, in order to sign one of these players, the Lakers needed to waive someone. Of the players left on the team, the most common name mentioned to waive has been Troy Daniels.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have indeed decided to waive Daniels.
By waiving Daniels, he will be free to try and sign somewhere else, while the Lakers will have an open roster spot going into March. With this move being made, one has to assume that the Lakers will be adding someone in the near future.
Daniels was signed this offseason to give the Lakers some extra shooting off the bench. However, he really never played all that much for the Lakers, and was never a consistent part of the rotation.
With the Lakers, Daniels averaged 4.2 points in 11.1 minutes per game. When given chances, Daniels didn’t shoot as well as the he or the Lakers would have liked to see, as he was at 35 percent from three-point range this season.
Now that the Lakers have the open roster spot, they will likely focus on who they want between Waiters and Smith. With all due respect to Daniels, Smith or Waiters would be an upgrade for the Lakers in all likelihood.
With an open roster spot, Pelinka will be able to make a decision on what will be best for the franchise as they try to build the best roster possible going into the playoffs.
