Recent Lakers rumors are that they might be bringing in more players for workouts beside Dion Waiters and J.R. Smith.

As we get closer to the start of the playoffs, recent Lakers rumors have been about who they will add to fill out the roster.

With the best record in the Western Conference, the Lakers are obviously one of the best teams in the league. However, the Lakers aren’t sitting on their hands. They are actively trying to improve their bench.

One of the key areas that the Lakers are looking to improve is their secondary playmaking. It has been well documented that the Lakers aren’t the same team with LeBron James off the court. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the options that are available aren’t the best to really help in that area.

Recently, the Lakers brought in Dion Waiters and J.R. Smith for workouts. These two seem like the front-runners for the final spot. However, the Lakers could reportedly hold more workouts. According to Tania Ganguli of the L.A. Times, the Lakers aren’t in a rush, but could bring others in.

"The team might bring in other players and is in no rush to fill the spot, according to people familiar with their plans."

Of the options that are left, Smith and Waiters appear like the best two on paper. However, there are some other players like Jamal Crawford and Tyler Johnson that are available. Of those two, Crawford is an interesting player because of what he could bring on the offensive end of the court. Crawford is capable of creating for himself and others.

Having someone to be a playmaker like Crawford could be the biggest need for the Lakers, but while Crawford is great on the offensive end, he has been a liability defensively the last few years.

With the Lakers seemingly not in a rush to fill the roster spot, it will be interesting to see what their next move is. Bringing in more players for workouts certainly can’t hurt, as they have found some great diamonds in the rough like Dwight Howard.

Considering how well Rob Pelinka has done the last year, having faith in him to make the right decision on the open spot is the correct call.
