In Bleacher Report’s most recent NBA Power Rankings, the Los Angeles Lakers were able to claim the top spot.

The Los Angeles Lakers were able to have arguably their best stretch of the season over the weekend, as they defeated two of the top teams in the league.

Starting on Friday night, the Lakers were able to get some revenge in their game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Earlier in the season, the Bucks were able to beat the Lakers on their homecourt. By losing to the Bucks, they were able to create the narrative that they were the team to beat in the NBA.

Beating the Lakers and having the best record overall in the NBA certainly warranted that talk. However, with the Lakers beating the Bucks, the Lakers proved that they could beat the best in the league.

After the Lakers beat the Bucks, they had very little rest before they would face another difficult task. On Sunday, the Lakers faced the Los Angeles Clippers for the third time this season and were able to defeat their rivals.

While beating the Bucks was important for the Lakers, beating the Clippers was certainly a bigger win. If the Lakers lost to the Clippers and fell to 0-3 against them this season, there would have rightfully been some cause for concern. However, the Lakers didn’t let it get to that and handled their business.

With two great wins over the weekend, the Lakers rightfully moved up to the No.1 spot in the NBA Power Rankings for Bleacher Report. Beating the Bucks and the Clippers over the weekend along with still having the best record in the Western Conference means that they are certainly deserving of the top spot.

As the Lakers storm to the top of the power rankings, LeBron James looks like he is making the MVP conversation a much closer race than we may have thought. With Giannis dealing with a knee injury, James might be able to continue to gain ground. Hopefully, the Lakers won’t let anyone hop them in the power rankings, as we head toward playoff time.
