Recent Lakers rumors have been about what the timeline will be before they are back on the court.
With the NBA season being suspended, recent Lakers rumors have been about when the league might start up again.
In a shocking turn of events on Wednesday night, the NBA decided to suspend the season. This is certainly an unprecedented move, but with Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz testing positive for the coronavirus, the league stepped in quickly.
The move to suspend the season feels like the right one, given the fact that Gobert tested positive and recently played against other teams. Not to mention his teammates and personnel around the Jazz.
With the season now being suspended, all eyes will be on when we get basketball back. Recently, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN gave a bit of a timetable on when we could expect to see basketball back.
"The regular-season stoppage will be at least two weeks so all players affected can go through quarantine and, one hopes, be cleared of the virus. In reality, it probably will be longer. By comparison, when the virus broke out in China, the Chinese Basketball Association suspended play in late January. The CBA is in the process of resuming play in early April, roughly a 10-week layoff."
The two-week timetable seems extremely unlikely at this point for the NBA unless things around the country get drastically better. However, the information on how the Chinese Basketball association handled it might be a more realistic chance. Seeing a return closer to that 10-week mark is a long time, but at least a realistic one.
For the Lakers, they are going to be hungry to get back out there with the best record in the Western Conference. When the NBA does come back, it will be interesting to see what they decide to do. Theoretically, they could start the season back up where it left off. Or, we could see them jump right into the playoffs.
As of now, it doesn’t appear like a decision on that has been made, as they will likely make a call on that when we know more about the timeline for a return. Hopefully, everyone stays safe and we are able to get back to basketball soon.
