The Los Angeles Lakers family recognizes during Women’s History Month that every good King has a great Queen beside him

In the dark aftermath of the tragic death of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, it brought to light the wonderful strength and importance of Vanessa Bryant.

Observing her strength in the midst of tragedy made it easy to see where Kobe got some of his strength to overcome stretches of losing while becoming a five-time champion and a beloved all-time great. Queens like Vanessa Bryant are needed for men to become great.

Being great is hard.

Having expectations of greatness has crushed many, from the young to athletes and teams. LeBron James is the rare athlete who has exceeded the hype of his mass greatness.

In honor of Woman’s History Month, a strong woman is needed to help a man succeed, as mentioned above. Yes, it is with great applause and deserved fanfare that we must give all women that go out into society and become trailblazers for aspiring women!

But in doing so, let’s not overlook the women who successfully handle the homefront without fanfare so that a man can go out and do great things a great disservice. Overlooking these women would be of great disservice.

The importance of a good wife cannot be understated. The King James Version of Proverbs 18:22 states: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” In many ways, Savannah James is the backbone that’s helping King James maintain his “favour” as the dominant figure in the NBA.

In fact, let’s expand the importance of a good wife.

The Showtime Era Lakers’ wives and women were told each season of their importance to championship glory. Note that three of the greatest players (Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James) in NBA history were all married during their playing careers.

Let’s compare their marital status with the presumed top ten players in the NBA heading into 2019-20, only two (James, Stephen Curry) are married. Both are the only ones in the top 10 who are three-time NBA champions with multiple MVP’s.

Therefore, the wife is crucial to obtaining a higher level of health and success not only at the NBA level but life in general.

Though Vanessa Bryant and Savannah James are selfless backbones who have the access to the Lakers limelight, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge all the women who do many of the same things but without the fanfare or access to the limelight.

To all the queens who are helping to raise children to become great men and women, thank you!!

To my wife Lindsey and all the married queens who do the unspoken and often under-appreciated tasks that have helped their kings reach new heights, thank you!

Your part in history is not forgotten!
