Los Angeles Lakers: Danny Green does not want to jump right into playoffs

With some uncertainty about how or when the NBA season will resume, Danny Green of the Los Angeles Lakers recently talked about jumping right into the playoffs.

As we continue to wait for the NBA to resume, fans of the Los Angeles Lakers are anxiously waiting for the team to get back on the court. It has felt like quite a while since we last saw the Lakers in action, and hopefully, they will be back on the court soon.

If the NBA does resume this season, it will be very interesting to see how the league goes about it. The two most likely scenarios are that they finish the regular season with the season being extended. Also, jumping into the playoffs seems like a possibility.

Recently, Danny Green spoke with Mike Trudell of Lakers.com about the possibility of jumping right into the playoffs, here’s what he had to say.

"For sure. I don’t think that’d be fair to just have teams dive right into the playoffs. I think we’d need at least five games of the regular season to just get us our flow back. Get our legs back under us, get some kind of rhythm, get our chemistry, get our team back. I don’t know if it’s preseason-type games or scrimmages, but at least five or six games under our belt to get back into team form."

Jumping right into the playoffs seems like it should be a last resort for the league. Most players who have spoken out about the season resume have believed that they need time to get their bodies right and back into proper game shape.

Ideally, finishing out the regular season would give players time to get their legs back under them, which could result in an exciting NBA Playoffs. With the whole league fresh, we could see players in great shape in the playoffs, rather than just battling through an 82-game season.

As a veteran with a lot of playoff minutes on his legs, Green is likely enjoying the rest. However, he knows what it will take to be ready for playoff basketball. Hopefully, we get basketball back soon, even if it is without fans in the stands to finish up the regular season.

With the Lakers being a true title contender this season, it would be a shame for them if they weren’t properly prepared for the playoffs. Jumping right into the playoffs would likely result in a lot of upsets, as who knows the type of basketball we would see after the long layoff.
