The Los Angeles Lakers have been connected to every big free agent that has entered the market over the last several offseasons. However, with a roster that already has two superstars, the upcoming offseason is going to be much different than years past.
The primary goal is not going to be to get a second superstar alongside LeBron James, instead, it is going to be to extend the second superstar they already have in Anthony Davis. Davis has a player option after the year and with a super-max looming, it is a certainty that he is not going to accept it.
Laker fans should not fret, though, as Davis looks to be loving life in Los Angeles and it is hard to even consider where he could go if he was not returning to the Lakers.
However, with things such as the mid-level exception, Laker fans might still be expecting the team to make some kind of free-agent acquisition to improve the team in the offseason.
In reality, the Los Angeles Lakers are not in a position to add via free agency.
Now, we are not ruling out the team adding a veteran minimum, low-impact player, such as JaVale McGee. That definitely could be in the cards but it would not add anything to the team that is not already on the roster.
The Lakers are not set up to make an impactful signing this offseason, as big of a bummer as it is. Here are the three distinct reasons why we think that the Lakers are not going to make any offseason signings after the season.
