3. If the Los Angeles Lakers are going to make any additions it will be via trade
The Los Angeles Lakers should not be completely ruled out in improving this offseason as every contending team should look to improve where it can. However, I just don’t think the team is going to force anything via free agency and instead is going to use the assets it has to try and get a better fit on the team.

Even this is not a guarantee in the slightest but if the Los Angeles Lakers are going to make any additions in the upcoming offseason, then it most likely will be via trade. The Lakers have two valuable assets that they could part ways with.
The first is Kyle Kuzma. Kuzma is a promising young player who Laker fans fell in love with early but has since taken a step back. He improved in year two but took a big step back in year three as his usage dipped tremendously due to the unorthodox fit on the roster with both LeBron and Davis.
Kuzma is a solid player, but the Lakers would be better off having someone that is 90 percent of what Kuzma is talent-wise if it fits things that the team is built around — such as three-point shooting and defense.
The other asset is the team’s first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, which admittedly is not a lot, but definitely could be used to land a knockdown shooter on a rebuilding team. That market would need to develop more, but it will be there during the offseason.
There are salary implications that would have to be adhered to and that adds an extra layer to the possibility of a trade but the Lakers have the assets and as we have seen before, Rob Pelinka is not afraid to pull the trigger.
