Anthony Davis was the hottest name on the trade market this summer and the Los Angeles Lakers were the organization that won the sweepstakes. They sent off key pieces of their future in addition to the third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft to acquire the All-Star big man.

The Lakers are well aware that Anthony Davis and his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, plan to test the free agency waters this upcoming summer.

The Lakers have certainly tried to make the best impression possible on the 27-year-old in an effort to get him to stay in Los Angeles. The historic franchise, the long lineage of superstar big men in Los Angeles, and the city itself are an easy sell to a superstar of Anthony Davis’s caliber. Crazier things have happened, but the Lakers are certainly heavy favorites to stay with the Lakers.

However, it is not a guarantee that Anthony Davis stays with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Just last summer, Kawhi Leonard jumped ship from the Toronto Raptors to play for the Los Angeles Clippers despite winning the NBA title. It can happen. That scenario is different, though, as the Raptors did not have LeBron James to convince Leonard to stay. The Lakers do.

This offseason, Anthony Davis will have an enormous decision to make, but it should be an easy one. The Lakers can sell him on being handed the keys to the franchise following the departure of LeBron James and a variety of other things. If the Lakers were to win the NBA title this season (if the season returns) that would likely seal the deal to keep the Lakers’ superstar 1-2 punch intact.

Although unlikely, we decided to take a look at three potential suitors for Anthony Davis in free agency. A lot of teams are entering free agency with plenty of cap space and could sell AD on the future.
