Both players have had MVP-caliber seasons and Davis is a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. James is averaging 25.7 points, 10.6 assists (league leader), and 7.9 rebounds. Davis is putting up 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks.
The duo isn’t just great individually but they have tremendous chemistry together. The intensity Davis plays with on defense has surely helped James go back to being a quality defender. James also looks a step quicker than last season which is truly a nightmare for anyone in the Lakers way.
If Memphis makes things competitive they don’t have someone who they can trust to make big shots against a great Lakers defense. The Lakers rank third in the league in defense (106.9 ppg allowed).
At the end of the day, the Grizzlies will gain from going up against a team like the Lakers. The young guys will see what it’s like to play meaningful basketball and what they will need to work on.
Look for the Lakers to beat them down in Staples the first two games, and Memphis will fight in their two home games but the Lakers should sweep them here.
