NBA fans are patiently waiting for Sunday for what is arguably the most anticipated sports documentary series of all time, The Last Dance. The 10-part series follows Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls and there is Lakers news attached to the documentary as well, as Kobe Bryant was interviewed for the series.
Josh Wilson broke down the news on FanSided sister site, Hoops Habit, which was first reported by Richard Deitsch of The Athletic.
According to Deitsch, Kobe’s interview segment on the documentary was filmed in mid-January, just one week before his untimely passing. We do not know which episode Bryant will appear in.
More Los Angeles Lakers news from the FanSided Network:
- LeBron James is built for single-elimination NBA Playoffs, Tony Pesta, Hoops Habit
Pesta argues that if the NBA resumes play and the league uses a single-elimination style playoff that LeBron would be the best-suited in the league to succeed. Pesta cites LeBron’s playoff experience, even though his record in his last three elimination games is just 3-2.
Pesta also cites LeBron’s clutch shooting as an advantage for the King in single-elimination games. While LeBron definitely has some intangibles to give him the edge, I still would be worried, as anything can happen in one game.
- Gianna Bryant is an honorary pick at the WNBA Draft, Gerald Bourguet, FanSided
The WNBA Draft was on Friday night and the league selected Gianna Bryant, Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester with honorary selections.
- The 40 greatest LA athletes of the last 40 years, Jamaal Artis, LA Sports Hub
My colleague and dear friend, Jamaal Artis, broke down the 40 greatest LA Sports athletes of his 40 years on this earth and there are quite a few Lakers on the list. Spoiler alert: four Lakers made it in the top-10 list, and number one might not be who people think it is.
Los Angeles Lakers news from around the web:
- Anthony Davis lists Westlake Mansion for $8 million, Neal J. Leiterberg, L.A. Times
Anthony Davis listed his Westlake Mansion, with a basketball court included, for just under $8 million on Friday. What does this mean for his future with the Los Angeles Lakers? Probably nothing.
- Jayson Tatum would give LeBron James the MVP, Taylor Rooks, Bleacher Report
The best player on the Los Angeles Lakers’ biggest rival, Jayson Tatum, said in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks that he would give LeBron James, not Giannis Antetokounmpo, the MVP award if the season were to end today.
You could definitely make a case for Giannis to take home the hardware (that case is easy to make) but NBA voters love the narratives surrounding MVP voting and what LeBron accomplished at his age is remarkable. Plus, the Lakers made the last big statement of the season thus far, beating the Bucks and Clippers in back-to-back games.
