The Los Angeles Lakers are not going to have as big of an offseason once the 2019-2020 season as they have the previous two years. The last two years have been about adding superstars to the roster, first LeBron James and then Anthony Davis, but this summer will be different.
The biggest narrative surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers is Anthony Davis’ impending player option. Davis can opt-out of the last year of his contract, which is, by far, the most likely outcome, forcing the Lakers’ hand to extend him to a long-term contract.
Chances are that Davis stays in LA. If not, he could turn the offseason on its head, but all signs are pointing to Davis being in the purple and gold for years to come.
There are several players with player options heading into the offseason but it is doubtful that those players will leave. It appeared as if the Lakers had a two-year plan this past offseason in signing contracts, so I would be shocked if the likes of Rajon Rondo, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Avery Bradley and JaVale McGee opted out of their contracts.
They are already making their market value with the Lakers, so it is hard to see them opting to leave a title-contending team, especially if there is unfinished business from this season.
But what about the Los Angeles Lakers’ impending free agents?
The Lakers have four players that are unrestricted free agents after the season. While none are hugely impactful, the team should be determined to limit the number of players that they lose this offseason.
From least likely to most likely, here are the chances of each impending free agent re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.
