1. The Showtime Lakers

The Showtime Lakers are not just the best dynasty in franchise history. They are not just one of the best dynasties in NBA history. They are not just one of the best dynasties in American sports history. They are one of the best dynasties worldwide in sports history.

You do not even have to be a basketball fan to have heard about the Showtime Lakers. This was the most successful period in Lakers’ history and paved the way for the dynasties that followed.

In terms of NBA history, the only dynasties that could make the case for being more successful are the Bill Russell Celtics (although not as memorable) and the 1990s Chicago Bulls, who ironically kickstarted their dynasty by defeating the Lakers in their last NBA Finals appearance until Kobe and Shaq.

Just look at the Hall of Famers that suited up for the Lakers during this time. Magic Johnson is my pick for the best point guard of all-time and many would agree. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is easily a top-five NBA player of all-time and I legitimately think he could make the case for the best basketball player of all-time.

James Worthy is a Hall of Famer, Jamaal Wilkes is a Hall of Famer, Bob McAdoo is a Hall of Famer. Even the guys who did not make the Hall of Fame or get all-star appreciation were great. Byron Scott is one of the best role players in league history while Michael Cooper is arguably the most forgotten-about role player in NBA history.

The Showtime Lakers won five championships and had more star power from top to bottom than any other team in league history. When assembling the greatest basketball teams of all-time, the Showtime Lakers are high on the list.
