The Los Angeles Lakers have a strong team, of that, there is no doubt, but looking at the Summer of 2020, can the purple and gold add to their roster and get even better?

After missing out on superstar small forward Kawhi Leonard in the Summer of 2019, Rob Pelinka and the Los Angeles Lakers did a fantastic job in cobbling a roster together after the Kawhi decision had robbed them of precious days that could have been used to target any player they wanted for the roster.

In hindsight, they have done pretty well and have assembled a roster that looks to be ready to compete for a championship this season (should the rest of the season go ahead).

With the 2020 off-season rapidly approaching, you can bet that General Manager/Vice President of basketball operations Rob Pelinka and his front office staff are diligently working and preparing for the impending free agency period.

With limited cap space, the purple and gold do not have enough cap space to make major transactions. Without clearing up significant cap space ( which would involve trading or waiving every player not named LeBron James or Anthony Davis.) the purple and gold can only offer the taxpayer mid-level exception which is expected to be $6,003,900.

While not a sizeable amount to land a difference-maker, it could be enough money to sway a ring chasing former star who would be willing to take a pay cut in hopes of putting themselves in the best position to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy.

The Lakers could focus on players who have made sizeable amounts of money throughout their careers, who are getting up there in age and who simply want to win at this stage of their career.

A small pool of talent but there are some players capable of making a difference.

With that being said, here are 3 impending free agents the Los Angeles Lakers should target.
