Defensive Player of the Year: Giannis Antetokounmpo, SF/PF, Milwaukee Bucks
Runner up: Anthony Davis, PF/C, Los Angeles Lakers
For Giannis Antetokounmpo to be in the running for both the Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player says so much about how special a play the Greek Freak truly is.
Let me makes this clear, Anthony Davis deserves to be the Defensive Player of the year, his stats on the defensive end trump that of Giannis Antetokounmpo but with how the next award plays out, it would be a travesty if Giannis did not get recognized for the mind-blowingly amazing season he has just had.
There has never been a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo in NBA history. Never has a player been so dominant in every single area and also been able to play every single position on the floor effortlessly.
With Giannis being just 25 years of age, it is unfathomable to think about what the future holds for Antetokounmpo going forward. It is not hyperbolic to say that if Giannis continues on this upward trend and starts winning championships that he could get himself in the conversation for the Greatest Player of All Time.
If Giannis learns how to shoot the 3-ball consistently, then it is over, he will be the most complete player the National Basketball Association has ever seen.
Giannis alongside Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert are in a league of their own defensively.
Giannis gets this award and it is not undeserved but Davis for me is deserving of DPOY.
The next slide will show you why he claims this award.
