The veteran minimum could be the Los Angeles Lakers’ best friend.

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ roster is fairly deep right now. After missing out on Kawhi Leonard and thus waiting to sign free-agent role players to fit around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there were a lot of naysayers that did not think the Lakers could perform as highly as they are.

There are several players that have played better than expected, thus helping the overall outlook of the team. Most notably, Avery Bradley has had a nice bounce-back year, Dwight Howard has a small role but is playing the most efficient basketball that he has played in quite some time and Alex Caruso has proven to be more than just the NBA’s biggest meme.

With the success that the front office had last offseason, fans may not be expecting the team to be that active this offseason. However, if we know anything, we know that the NBA is always moving and we should not expect the Lakers to be stagnant.

One area that could be addressed, depending on the offseason moves, is the backcourt. Right now, the Lakers are fairly deep in the backcourt but all it takes is one Rajon Rondo trade, or several players opting out of their options, and the team suddenly has a need.

There are internal options that have not played a role yet this season, such as Talen Horton-Tucker and Dion Waiters, that could be intriguing to add to the rotation next season.

However, I still would not rule out the team looking to add veteran depth by signing a guard to a veteran minimum contract. After all, the veteran minimum does not impact the cap, so there is no harm, no foul. It is better to have too much depth rather than not enough.

With that in mind, here are three potential guards that the Los Angeles Lakers could target with a veteran minimum contract.
