LeBron James speaks out on the Drew Brees comment and Fox News
By Ronald Agers
Who knows what will happen to Drew Brees. The Saints games will be interesting!
Again, it does bear repeating that Drew Brees did apologize for his remarks and promise to do better. The only problem is that he is now the poster child for these potential actions for anyone trying to dilute the message or change the narrative.
- If racism becomes a social issue, many times people use patriotism, military service or the American flag to change the focus.
- The media uses their statements to tell black and brown people how to protest and say what’s acceptable.
What Drew Brees now represents beyond the shadow of a doubt is a symbol of anyone who tries to change the real message being denounced, discounted, and disregarded.
Good luck to Drew Brees in the locker room, according to Shannon Sharpe.
While Drew Brees spends his season with a dark cloud over his head every Sunday, LeBron James is staking his claim to being this era’s version of African American athletes of years past fighting for social justice. Instead of sitting on his money and enjoying life, he has taken to trying to invoke change for the voiceless. Something, many athletes of his financial portfolio have failed to do outside of a well-worded statement.
LeBron James collects $35 million (Minus a few dollars to give back for the pandemic) this year, while owning the NBA’s top endorsement portfolio. Let’s not forget his exploding media company that collecting paychecks all over Hollywood. Question for all reading this.
Except for King James, what’s the number of prominent sports personalities or organizations to match the efforts or influence of the face of the NBA? Take your time.
Even though Brees’ comments cut so many people so deeply, LeBron James has shown the commitment that he will not allow others to cloud the message and derail the movement like in 2016.
