Los Angeles Lakers Fantastic Four: How to build a super team for 2020-21
Los Angeles Lakers make a play for Victor Oladipo
- The Indiana Pacers receive: SG/SF: Danny Green, PF/SF Kyle Kuzma and a 2020 1st round pick.
- The Los Angeles Lakers receive: SG Victor Oladipo
The Los Angeles Lakers get their back up plan in case they miss out on Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The last year has not been kind to the NBA; the debacle in China and the COVID-19 Pandemic has hammered the NBA.
The salary cap was already going to be affected due to what happened in China but the pandemic is going to deliver a body blow to the NBA that it might take years to recover from.
The purple and gold have a firm eye set on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Summer of 2021. The entire NBA world knows it.
They have made sure that every contract on their roster is moveable and expires that Summer giving them maximum room to chase Antetokounmpo.
COVID-19 has the potential to throw the Lakers and the rest of the NBA’s plans of.
With the salary cap due to take a hammering, the best decision for Giannis is to re-sign with the Bucks and take the max dollars, he can get right now.
This is not good news for the purple and gold.
If this comes to pass, the Lakers will need a backup plan that can be turned into a viable solution moving forward.
Enter Victor Oladipo.
Like Cousins, injuries have not been kind to Oladipo.
He has rightfully sat out the remainder of the NBA season to get his body right for next year. That is the right move long term not just for his body but also for his financial earnings going forward.
Oladipo did not fully look like himself after coming back from his injury this season, a lot of ring rust, stiffness, and lack of confidence seemed to plague Oladipo.
With the Pacers paying numerous people and with Sabonis now their go-to guy, is it time to move on from Oladipo?
If so, the Pacers could do a lot worse than what the Lakers are offering.
A lockdown defender at the shooting guard and small forward position, a potential All-Star in Kyle Kuzma who is capable of scoring 20ppg and a 1st round pick to bring in roster depth.
The Lakers have Markieff Morris to replace Kuz’s minutes.
The purple and gold have the mid-level tax exemption to bring in someone to replace Green’s production, they could use it on Point guard Kris Dunn and allow the likes of KCP, Alex Caruso and Avery Bradley cover the minutes Green had at shooting guard and small forward.
Dunn offers elite defense and an ability to be a capable secondary playmaker.
Knowing that the Lakers could run a 3 guard line up of Caruso, Bradley and Dunn would allow for incredible defense on the floor next to LeBron James. With AD locking up the paint it would allow for LeBron to do what LeBron does best.
Dunn has the potential to be Tony Allen, his price is not going to be high. While he isn’t a star he will add value.
Cousins, Davis, LeBron, and Oladipo. That is truly a fantastic four.
