Chris Paul on the Los Angeles Lakers

Chris Paul on the Los Angeles Lakers would put an end to a chapter that began 9 years ago.

I am sure that the late David Stern (may he rest in peace) did what he believed was best for the league-owned New Orleans Hornets by nixing the 3 team deal that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers and numerous pieces to the Hornets as well as Pau Gasol to the Rockets.

In hindsight, the deal with the Clippers ended up being extremely lopsided as not only did the Clippers land the best player in the deal, none of the players the Hornets received back had anything near star potential.

Eric Gordon during his time with Hornets missed a mind-boggling 173 games in five seasons, Al-Farouq Aminu left in free agency, and Chris Kaman stayed for one season before going to the Dallas Mavericks, while draft pick Austin Rivers was widely considered to be a bust, he has since become a decent role player in the league.

At least with the Lakers deal, you get a perennial 6th man of the year in Lamar Odom, a good volume scorer in Kevin Martin, an up and coming point guard in Goran Dragic and a reliable veteran in Luis Scola.

What’s done is done.

With this trade, the Los Angeles Lakers finally land Chris Paul.

While his powers have lessened over time, Chris Paul is still an incredibly effective player who would make the Los Angeles Lakers significantly better.

The Laker’s biggest weakness this season has been secondary playmaking. That now becomes their biggest strength as with Chris Paul and LeBron James you automatically have the two best floor generals in the NBA on one team.

The Lakers can stagger their minutes in such a way where they are never without one of CP3 or LBJ on the floor at any one time.

Paul’s ability to score the ball will also be a refreshing difference from what the Lakers have become used to.

Not since the days of D’Angelo Russell have the Lakers had a pure point guard capable of averaging 20PPG, while CP3 won’t be asked to do that, the fact that he can be a big help for the purple and gold.

With LeBron James and Chris Paul, you have two of the most competitive people in the NBA on one team pushing everyone around them to be better, this will go throughout the roster and encourage everyone.

You will also get ridiculously focused Chris Paul. This is his final chance at winning a championship. It isn’t going to happen in OKC but it just might in LA.

The Banana boat crew and the reunion of AD and Cousins all in one place.

That is either a recipe for disaster or for huge success.
