The Los Angeles Lakers’ front office should already be prepping for the offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers are not a perfect basketball team, the eight seeding games in the Orlando bubble have shown us that. While to be fair, most of these games did not really mean anything, the Lakers still went 3-5 and showed some holes on the roster that are going to need to be addressed.

The team can still win the NBA Finals with these holes and all it really needs is for LeBron James and Anthony Davis to get hot, which will likely happen when the games start to matter. However, whether the team wins it all or doesn’t this season, the front office is still going to have to address these holes for continued success.

Rob Pelinka and company should already be preparing for the offseason as well. It is going to be an accelerated offseason because of the late resumption of the 2020 season. If the Lakers make it all the way to Game 7 of the NBA Finals then they will have less than a month to turn around back into training camp.

There are a lot of question marks around the Lakers’ immediate future. Several players have player options in their contracts (most notably Anthony Davis) and someone like Avery Bradley could opt against returning if the COVID-19 pandemic is still playing a big part in the season (spoiler alert: it probably will be).

Let’s attempt to get into the mind of the front office and prepare for the upcoming offseason. Here are there specific skills that the Los Angeles Lakers should be looking to add in the upcoming free agency period.
