2. Playoff Rondo is actually happening

The Los Angeles Lakers have gotten a huge boost from Rajon Rondo playing this well and he has even made us eat crow over at the Lake Show Life Podcast. He is playing much better than expected, and at least for this playoff series, we are getting Playoff Rondo.

I would not expect this level of play from Rondo throughout the entire NBA Playoffs but this matchup is tailor-made for him to succeed. He is coming up against a team that does not have great guard defense and is lacking size, making his life as a facilitator much easier.

Plus, the Rockets are not deep at all and have really only been running a seven-man rotation. Rondo is much more refreshed coming off the bench than the Rocket players and it has been obvious. He is taking it into that seventh gear and it is swinging the playoffs series.

The Lakers do not need Playoff Rondo to win this playoff series but having him play this well is the difference of this series going six or seven games and going five games. As long as he continues this high level of play, which the matchup indicates he will, then the Lakers simply have too much firepower.

That is true for the entire team as well. The Lakers are simply deeper than the Houston Rockets. Rondo has been great, Alex Caruso is very key on defense and Kyle Kuzma has been wildly efficient in the Lakers’ two wins.

Danny Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope aren’t playing that great and Markieff Morris has been kind of hit and miss. The Lakers have not even hit their final form yet and that should be very worrisome for the Houston Rockets.

The Lakers have taken the Rockets’ best punch and are up 2-1 in the series while the Rockets have not even taken the Lakers’ best punch. The Rockets have a puncher’s chance at best at winning another game this series.
