Los Angeles Lakers: Dwight Howard has become severely underrated
By Jason Reed
Dwight Howard has been fantastic for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Playoffs.
The Los Angeles Lakers did something in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals that they had not done prior: start Dwight Howard. JaVale McGee has been tasked as the Lakers’ primary starting center and Howard did not even play at all the series prior against the Houston Rockets.
In fact, Howard started only two games all season for the Lakers. He has started a combined 11 games the last two seasons. This is a rare occurrence.
Howard made the most of it as he was fantastic for the Lakers in this game. After struggling on the boards last game, Frank Vogel needed a boost on the glass and he got just that out of Howard. Howard finished with 11 boards and 13 points.
Most importantly, Howard led the way in offensive rebounds which led to second-chance points for the Lakers, which ultimately was a big reason why the team won. Howard had six of the team’s 12 offensive rebounds in Game 4, which was more than the four offensive rebounds the entire team had in Game 3.
Howard has become massively underrated in the NBA. Granted, it was his own doing, but he is still a productive rim-protector and glass cleaner at this stage of his career.
We break down Dwight Howard’s impact on the Los Angeles Lakers on the latest Lake Show Life Podcast episode:
