2020 NBA Finals: Los Angeles Lakers vs Miami Heat starts on Wednesday night
The Los Angeles Lakers are back in the NBA Finals in what has been an extremely tumultuous year for the NBA at-large as well as the Lakers franchise.
Coming into the season, hopes were obviously high for the Lakers and LeBron James. It was the first year of the Anthony Davis pairing and LeBron James certainly wasn’t getting any younger. The Lakers looked good from top-to-bottom going off to a reeling 17-3 start to the season. By the All-Star break Los Angeles was 41-12.
Of course, the start of 2020 came with shocking news for the NBA world, but more specifically the Lakers. Kobe Bryant’s tragic passing in late January sparked a different call to action within the Lakers and the reason for which they play.
Not having gone to the Finals since the Kobe Bryant era, this Finals appearance is surely symbolic and meaningful for the Lakers. There has been a lot of talk of embodying the Kobe Bryant spirit throughout the playoffs, especially within Anthony Davis’ first signature Lakers moment.
Now, the Lakers are almost there, just four wins away from hoisting their 16th championship trophy in franchise history.
