2. Tyler Johnson

Tyler Johnson isn’t the sexiest of names on the Los Angeles Lakers’ options to replace Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Rajon Rondo, but he showed the league that he can still be a very useful player and deserves to be on this list of free-agent point guards that should be considered.

At only 28-years-old, Johnson had a pretty impressive show-out in the bubble as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. He provided them a scrappy mentality that could be important on a championship team.

The point guard out of Fresno State found himself without a job for quite some time before finding a home in Brooklyn after being waived by the Phoenix Suns. It could be possible that the risk of being out of the league lit a spark within him, showing him that in order to have a successful career he must do the little things that are needed to be a winning player.

Although he played just eight games for the Brooklyn Nets, he averaged 12 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds while shooting an astounding 39% from three-point range.

Johnson would provide a lower ceiling than some of the other options and would probably be better served in a smaller bench role, but his aggressiveness on the floor could make him a better defensive option than others.

The Los Angeles Lakers really showed that they are a defensive-minded team when they stifled the Miami Heat in game six of the NBA Finals, and they definitely would not want to sacrifice defense this offseason. The energy that Tyler Johnson would bring to the point guard rotation could help build upon an already elite defense.
