7. Trade the future second-round pick capital for a second-round pick in 2020 and draft Killian Tillie
Again, this is a dream scenario. This is would take several moving parts to go the Los Angeles Lakers’ way, but if they do, then they absolutely should try to trade back into this year’s draft to select Gonzaga’s Killian Tillie.
Tillie has four years of college experience, which is huge for a rookie on a contending team as they could play minutes right away and is your typical NBA stretch four/five. He is not the most physical down near the rim and is not a traditional center but he does fit well in today’s NBA.
Tillie averaged 13.6 points per game last season and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc on 3.8 attempts per game — that is the important number. If he can become a reliable off-ball shooter in the league, which he seemingly already is, then he will find his niche in the NBA.
He should be available in the second round and if it gets to the point where the Lakers can conduct a two-for-one for future picks then they absolutely should do it. This is possible as we have the Pistons sending back picks to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Rose trade for that first-round pick.
This could also work if the Lakers can get Rose without sending that first-round pick as part of the trade. However, with Kuzma and Cacok going to Indiana, that first-round pick might be necessary.
Regardless, in my ideal offseason, the Lakers find a way to add Tillie to the roster. He is a bit redundant with Morris and Gallinari on the team but he sets up nicely to be a contributor in the future at the four and five.
