2. Shooting guard

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to need to come up with a gameplan regarding how they handle the backcourt this offseason. Notable names such as Rajon Rondo and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are both testing free agency and very well could leave the Lakers for a larger contract elsewhere.

There is also the possibility of trading Danny Green. Green is on an expiring deal and the Lakers could utilize that salary to get a bigger fish. Personally, I love the idea of packaging Green with Kyle Kuzma and more assets to land Victor Oladipo.

Even if the team gets Oladipo, and manages to hang on to the pick in 2020, they have depth questions at guard. Alex Caruso is fantastic defensively and should get a bigger role and Talen Horton-Tucker is a project that could blossom into a plus defender, at the very least.

Besides that, though, the Lakers wouldn’t really have much. Avery Bradley is not a guarantee to opt into his contract, or even play next season, and he plays more of the one anyway. With KCP and Green gone, the shooting guard position becomes rather thin.

However, because of Caruso (who I think fits better as a two-guard) and the option of either having Green or Oladipo (or someone similar), it is easier to make the case for the other guard position as a bigger need.

Plus, if THT is all that the Lakers hope he will be then the team already has a young two-guard to build around.
