Los Angeles Lakers: Why re-signing DeMarcus Cousins is imperative
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers absolutely should re-sign DeMarcus Cousins this offseason.
DeMarcus Cousins has had a really interesting NBA career. Just months before he was set for the biggest payday of his life he suffered a terrible Achilles injury that halted his payday. Since then, Cousins has been trying to prove that he can get healthy to once again be worth a big contract.
It was not long ago that Cousins was the best center in the NBA. Since then, he had a stint with the Golden State Warriors in which he got hurt in the NBA Playoffs and then signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Cousins suffered a torn ACL before the season even began and has not played a minute in the purple and gold. The Lakers released him in February to open up a roster spot for Markieff Morris. However, he was allowed to continue rehabbing with the team.
Cousins should be all set for the start of the 2020-21 season and currently does not have a home. He still is going to be a minimum option from a contract standpoint, so he is not out of the market for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Not only is Cousins in the Lakers’ market but he should be a market priority. It is imperative that the Lakers sign Cousins, and here is why.
