Los Angeles Lakers: Why re-signing DeMarcus Cousins is imperative

2. It is an insanely cheap option to make sure the Los Angeles Lakers do not get surpassed
Winning an NBA Championship is going to be harder next season. This season was the hardest in NBA history because of outside factors, but in terms of the on-court talent, the Lakers are going to have more competition next season.
If you are a frequent reader of Lake Show Life then you have heard this adage multiple times by now: if you are not getting better in the offseason then you are getting worse and several teams will be getting better.
The Los Angeles Clippers are bound to make improvements after blowing a 3-1 lead in the second round of the NBA Playoffs last season. The Golden State Warriors will be healthy and are legitimate title contenders. Not only are they contenders now, but they have Andrew Wiggins and the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft that can be played with.
Over in the Eastern Conference, we have an upset Giannis Antetokounmpo who might be making his last run at a title in Milwaukee and we have the Brooklyn Nets, who are healthy and have the 1-2 punch of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant alongside some great role players.
The league is naturally getting better and the Los Angeles Lakers do not have a ton of options to also get better because of the large contracts to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It would be a failure to not benefit from a cheap, talented option like Cousins, even if it does not work out.
