Jeremy Lin: Pass
The problem is still the same and we will address it multiple times during the course of the article with several options at the point guard.
A name which has recently been making some noise is the one of Jeremy Lin. The sensation formerly known as Linsanity has fallen far from his previous status and after winning a championship (as a non-factor) with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, he landed in China.
Recently, the Asian-American made public his desire to return to the NBA and it seems some teams have already expressed their interest. Most notably the Golden State Warriors.
Lin would obviously address the backup point guard need for the Lakers, but he does not certainly stand out as the best option on the market.
With a consistent history of injuries, it is hard to expect to count on such a player in a delicate role as the one he would cover. Although he would probably represent a low-risk acquisition, most definitely coming on a minimum contract, he is not the kind of experiment you are recommended to run on a championship-hunt season.
Furthermore, his physical reliability combines with his time away from the league competition (including 2019), which does not give any guarantee on the level of performance he would be able to provide at the NBA level.
Making the part-time backup of Stephen Curry is different from the delicate role of leading a whole unit with much-expected reliability on the shoulders. Hence, not good for LA.
