Los Angeles Lakers: Why the Golden State Warriors won’t dethrone the Lakers
By Jason Reed
Some pundits are already circling the Golden State Warriors over the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are fresh off of an NBA Championship and the disrespect has already started. The team that nobody expected to win it all in 2020 is already being picked against, this time against the team that holds the second overall pick — the Golden State Warriors.
This started with Stephen A. Smith breaking down why the Warriors have the best chance to dethrone the Lakers next season and has become a talking point among NBA circles since. Unfortunately for Warrior fans, it won’t be as easy as it seems.
First and foremost, I do have to acknowledge that the Warriors are in a great position next season. The team is getting Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson back and has the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
They could either draft an elite talent or package that young asset alongside Andrew Wiggins for another big name. There are possibilities for the Warriors and with all of their playoff experience, I definitely understand why it is easy to jump on the bandwagon.
Personally, I think I would even pick them over the Los Angeles Clippers. However, when it comes to how they match up with the Los Angeles Lakers, I just cannot see how they win a playoff series.
Of course, there is a lot of offseason left to unfold and the rosters heading into the season will be different than they are now. But just based on what we saw last season from the Lakers and the identity of both teams, I feel comfortable saying that the Lakers are a nightmare matchup for Golden State.
Let’s break down why.
