The Los Angeles Lakers need to avoid certain guards this offseason.

The 2020 offseason will be critical if the Los Angeles Lakers will have a chance of repeating as NBA Champions. With the Lakers being a top tier contender, they are in play to make a blockbuster trade during the offseason to give the team a third star that they have been chasing since the acquisition of Anthony Davis.

Going into the 2019-2020 season, it was predicted that Kyle Kuzma would be the player that would step up and be the third star for the Lakers. Kuzma was the only player from the team’s young core that was kept on the team after the Anthony Davis trade.

With there not being any indication that Kuzma will be able to fill that role in soon enough to fit the current championship window of the team, it is time for the Lakers to make a move to solidify that third-star role.

The Lakers are in talks with many teams throughout the league and have been rumored to be making calls about trading for a handful of players. While some players will be perfect fits and will push the Lakers to be frontrunners to win the 2020-2021 NBA Championship.

On the flip side, giving up too much in a trade or bringing in the wrong player could ruin the style the team plays with, the chemistry the team has on and off the floor, and the future cap space the Lakers have to keep them in contention with top free agents.

With the Lakers being rumored to be a potential landing spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo in next year’s free agency, trading for a player with a long term high paying contract would take them out of consideration of bringing the two time MVP onto the team.
