Los Angeles Lakers: 4 most surprising moves this offseason
By Brad Magsam
The Los Angeles Lakers made some surprising moves to bolster the roster.
The Los Angeles Lakers had one gigantic task upon them following their bubble championship in October: re-sign superstar Anthony Davis to his maximum contract. This was something that became a forgone conclusion since the New Orleans Pelicans traded Davis to the Lakers last offseason.
Outside of the obvious move of re-signing Davis, fans were ready to bring a majority of the roster back to defend their crown. If the Los Angeles Lakers were good enough to win it all last season, they should be good enough to win it again this season.
Rob Pelinka had other things in mind. Pelinka made moves that almost nobody saw coming. The former agent must have the mentality that either you are getting better or you are getting worse. He wanted to make sure that he had the Lakers doing the former.
But it wasn’t just the signings to make the team better that was impressive. Pelinka was able to do so while making the Lakers a younger team. With LeBron James getting older, the Lakers have a young core that can potentially grow together and carry he torch once James decides it is time.
With the upcoming season upon us, I wanted to take a look at the most surprising moves the Los Angeles Lakers made during this abbreviated offseason.
