Los Angeles Lakers: 4 Lessons in the preseason win over LA Clippers
By Ronald Agers
Dennis Schroder seems to want to start for the Los Angeles Lakers. After this performance? Why?
Let’s get this out of the way early. LeBron James may not win this year’s MVP (If Luka Doncic plays like he did in the bubble, he’ll win!) but he’s the MVP. No seriously. If anyone watched Dennis Schroder play last night, they are praying that LeBron does not get hurt. The Lakers still need a point guard. BADLY!
This is what you can expect from you starting point guard.
Now let’s talk about the backup point guard. No check that, in Schroder’s mind he should start. Most Lakers fans will defend him based on last year’s performance.
Well, here’s the truth.
Dennis Schroder played like the guy in Atlanta, who was dismissed and replaced by a guy named Trae Young. A guy that can’t run an offense efficiently while jacking up shots. He was terrible.
He scored 10 points on 4-11 shooting. He did very little to get the Lakers’ offense started and turned the ball over six times. That’s just the offensive end. Wanna talk about the other end?
His defensive performance was just as bad. His lack of discipline led to numerous defensive breakdowns. Clipper players had no issues blowing by his turn-style defense.
After watching Harrell and Horton-Tucker play tough on both ends, it was easy to see that Schroder played like he was entitled for minutes. If this keeps up, well he is in for a very rude awakening.
He wasn’t alone in his listless play. But at least this player help close things out in the 4th quarter. Read on to see who this Lakers player is.
