The last time the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Clippers on Opening Night
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Opening Night.
Meaningful Los Angeles Lakers basketball returns on Tuesday as the Lakers take on the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.
The Lakers opened the 2019-20 season in the same fashion, losing to the Clippers in the process. The purple and gold dropped the first two games of the season against the Clippers before besting them in the last two.
We did not get the Western Conference Finals matchup that we were promised, so here we are.
The Clippers are a common Opening Night opponent for the Lakers, although the purple and gold have not emerged victorious over the Clippers in seven years. The last time that the Lakers beat the Clippers on Opening Night was 2013.
This was the topic for my Staggerin’ Statistics question on the latest episode of the Lake Show Life Podcast. The question: can Daniel name the starting five + the top-scorer from that fateful night? Listen below to see if he can (and play along, too!).
Staggerin’ Statistics is not the only segment that returned alongside the return of Laker basketball, as some of our favorites have also returned as well.
Daniel and I both picked our purple and gold players for Opening Night. Our purple players are Clipper role players that the Lakers need to focus on stopping/exposing in order to walk away with the W. Our gold players are Laker role players that we think will have a big/impactful game against the Clippers.
We also continued our betting competition from last season, which I won. Daniel and I both pick the spread as well as the points total for the game. According to The Action Network, the Lakers are three-point favorites and the point total has been set at 224.
There was live breaking news at the end of the podcast about Clippers guard Luke Kennard signing a four-year, $64 million extension with the Clippers. We briefly break that down, as well as laugh a bit about the Clippers overpaying for another one-way player who is bad on the defensive end.
