Los Angeles Lakers: LeBron and AD close out Spurs again, 4 Lessons
By Ronald Agers
The Los Angeles Lakers took care of business a second time against the San Antonio Spurs.
The Los Angeles Lakers faced a challenge of closing out back-to-back games with the San Antonio Spurs with a victory. What Frank Vogel feared about a possible lack of focus came to fruition as the game came down to the wire. Only the Lakers have two of the top five players to get them out of trouble when needed.
Lake Show Life breaks down what else happened in Lake Show Life Lessons! The only Los Angeles Lakers extended post-game report with in-depth analysis and highlights.
The Los Angeles Lakers made a little history playing their second consecutive road game against the same opponent in the same arena since 1965. The Lake Show did what they had to do sweeping the baseball-esque series with the San Antonio Spurs with a 109-103 win.
It was almost Groundhog Day for the Lake Show Life staff because it was basically the same game except for two important factors. One, the Spurs actually hit the layups the Lakers were handing out and two, Anthony Davis was aggressive early and very often.
When the Spurs had a possible upset working, the last three minutes was about why true contenders need superstars. The Lakers have two of the top five in the NBA. The Spurs have none.
In the last three minutes of the game while the Spurs were up 103-100, LeBron and AD took over the game and this is what happened.
- LeBron hits Davis with a pass on the left wing for AD’s fourth 3 pointer of the night to tie the game at 103.
- AD tightened up on the defensive end and forced stops on the next two Spurs possessions.
- LeBron had a strong drive to the basket and Kyle Kuzma cleans up his miss.
- LeBron James finally runs Derrick White over in the post and finishes with a grown man layup.
In the end, the Lakers closed the game on a 9-0 run, but it was ugly for the first 45 minutes of the game. That is except for possible Anthony Davis.
Lake Show Life will continue to push the narrative that this franchise needs Anthony Davis to be aggressive early and often for the this franchise to repeat as champions. Frank Vogel is still pushing AD to continue to shoot more 3 point shots.
Well, the staff and Frank Vogel will sleep well because he did both in spectacular fashion. When the Spurs had a possible upset working, AD easily had his best game of the season.
A very important factor that will be overlooked by many is the dominance the Lakers had on the offensive boards. They had 16 of them. To take things further, three Lakers (LeBron, AD and Monrezl Harrell!) finished with 11 rebounds apiece! AD almost matched the entire San Antonio roster with 7 offensive boards by himself. The Spurs had 8.
But there are some issues with this team that will have to deal with on the defensive end. It was enough that one of our readers voiced their frustrations in the early post-game. Stay tuned for that. Some of the problems are about change of roster and philosophy, but the last few games are about effort.
