Anthony Davis got out of the gate early for the Los Angeles Lakers!

The last Lake Show Lessons post game discussions were passionate and very opinionated. The strange thing is, none of it was about Anthony Davis’ offensive struggles. On the very first Lakers possession against Denver, AD knocked down a 17 footer from the left side of the key. Then AD disappeared for the rest of the half. Overall he had a subpar game.

In the Detroit game Anthony Davis got in the post and the Lakers offense was off to a very hot start…

AD dropped his first six shots in the game by attacking the rim time and time again. The difference  for AD’s hot start was being aggressive which is imperative to the Los Angeles Lakers offense.

Then after Davis gets hot, it opens up options for his teammates while the Pistons couldn’t adjust by double teaming. Now it’s evident that the Lakers can plan and execute dealing with any extra defensive help on AD’s post ups.

The Lakers implemented speed cuts right off his post ups. This example opens up two options…

  • One, the guard can cut hard in front of AD with a handoff option. This way the defender is already in trouble trailing and will get at stuck in on AD’s screen leading to an potential score.
  • Two, if the defender goes under AD’s screen, the 3-point shot is open.

Anthony Davis shot 4-7 from the post up position with two passes that led to another 5 points (This includes a Marc Gasol 3 pointer!).

Bottom line…if Anthony Davis gets the ball in the post early and often, the attention he brings opens up many other hidden options that opponents will have to deal with.

AD had a stat line of 30 points (13-22 shooting!), 5 rebounds (2 offensive!), 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal. Even better, he even missed only one free throw.

But having to deal with playing a season high (By a ton!) 45 minutes, he looked like he had ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and the first overtime. But he caught his second wind in the last overtime to get the Lakers over the top.

The great thing about this Lake Show Life Lessons series is the intelligent readers and their opinions. This website considers them family. However, sometimes families fight. The next player discussed on this list caused quite a ruckus. Read on to see who was doing the fighting on both sides!
