The Los Angeles Lakers ended a five-game homestand on Friday with a win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The game did not start off well for the Lakers as the purple and gold fell to an absurd 22-2 deficit.

However, the Lakers were able to claw back, make it a game by halftime and then completely stagger the Grizzlies in the third quarter. At the end of the day, the Lakers wound up beating the Grizzlies by 10 points, 115-105.

That slow start was following three consecutive overtime wins against bad teams for the Lakers. It took a combined four overtimes to beat the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder (twice). With those fresh in mind, this extremely slow start was an easy excuse to panic.

But that is what made the game so great and that was my main takeaway on the latest episode of the Lake Show Life Podcast. This win proved why the Lakers are great and should serve as a reminder to not overreact about ugly regular-season wins.

The Lakers pulled a game out of the jaws of defeat, something that only good teams can do. More importantly, both Anthony Davis and LeBron James looked incredible and the depth of the Lakers was simply too good for Memphis to overcome.

That, mixed with other factors that should keep fans from panicking, is exactly why the Lakers are great in the first place.

Previewing Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets

At the end of the podcast, I preview the upcoming matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers handed the Nuggets a blowout loss earlier this season but that was at Staples Center with this game taking place at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

While the betting odds are not yet out, I do tease which way I will lean when the spread is released, and some fans might not be happy.

I also break down the purple and gold players of the game. The purple player is a role player on Denver that the Lakers need to focus on containing while the gold player is a role player on the Lakers that I think will have a big game.

The purple player of the game is JaMychal Green and the gold player is Dennis Schroder. You can hear the reasoning for why in the podcast.
