Most surprising Los Angeles Lakers: 3. LeBron James
Yes, I am including LeBron James on this list. Go ahead and tell me why I am wrong for saying LeBron has surprised me this season because quite frankly, I was wrong about LeBron heading into the season.
But I was not the only one. Don’t get me wrong, I was not expecting this to be the season in which LeBron finally took a step back from being one of the best in the league. We all knew he was still going to be an All-NBA player and that is why the Lakers were title favorites.
I am mostly surprised by the workload that LeBron James has taken on thus far and the fact that he is the favorite to win the MVP award at this point in the season. Prior to the year, LeBron was the fourth-favorite to win the award. He was not even favored to be a finalist!
All the signs were pointing to LeBron taking it easy to start the season. The Lakers were coming off of the shortest offseason in American sports history and he is 36 years old after all.
It appeared that was coming to fruition at the beginning of the year as well. LeBron’s workload was smaller and he was noticeably playing at 85-90% if we are being honest. However, instead of AD being the star to step up and take on the bigger workload, it has still been LeBron.
His numbers should not surprise us. He is LeBron James. We know he is going to be great.
What is the most surprising about LeBron is that he is still playing better than just about everyone in the league while also being fifth in the league in minutes played.
That is why he is the King.
