Why Blake Griffin joining the Los Angeles Lakers is possible
By Jason Reed
Blake Griffin was once one of the most exciting players in the entire NBA. As part of Lob City, Blake Griffin took the league by storm with his thunderous dunks and elite athleticism. Then he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, dealt with various injuries and is not the same guy.
Griffin’s averages this season have fallen far from where they used to be earlier in his career. The former All-NBA forward is averaging just 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Over the last two seasons (38 games), Griffin has actually posted a negative Value Over Replacement Player.
However, he is still only 31 years old and on the right team, he can elevate his play. The old Griffin might be gone, but he absolutely could be an important role player on a title-contending team.
Could that team be the Los Angeles Lakers?
Blake Griffin’s tenure with the Detroit Pistons is likely coming to an end. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin is going to sit while Detroit figures out trade or buyout options for the former all-star.
That indicates that Griffin likely played his last game ever in Detroit and could his next game be in Los Angeles? It certainly is possible, albeit some things have to go the Lakers’ way.
Here is why the Los Angeles Lakers adding Blake Griffin is not as far-fetched as it may seem.
