The Los Angeles Lakers play their first game following Anthony Davis’ Achilles scare on Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Davis left early against the Denver Nuggets and will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks with a calf strain.

This is the second time the Lakers have played the Timberwolves this season, both of which are without AD. However, this time around Karl-Anthony Towns will be playing for Minnesota.

The Lakers clobbered the Timberwolves the first time around in a game in which Kyle Kuzma could not miss in the first half. That was at the Staples Center, though. This is at the Target Center in Minnesota.

As part of the Lake Show Life Podcast, I have been picking games both against the spread and the point total this season. I went 2-0 against the Nuggets, picking Denver +3 and the over. I am 27-23 through 50 games.

Per the Bet MGM odds via the Action Network, the Lakers are 6.5-point favorites with the point total set at 222.5.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves betting picks:

  • Minnesota Timberwolves +6.5, over 222.5 (Final Score: Los Angeles Lakers 114, Minnesota Timberwolves 110)

I think this game is going to be close both against the spread and against the point total. No matter which side of the lines you bet you will probably be holding your breath until the final whistle.

I have the Grizzlies covering 6.5 with a four-point loss with the over hitting by 1.5 points. It really could go either way and the difference in going 0-2 and 2-0 could be one three-pointer by Memphis.

With KAT playing in this game and AD out I think the Timberwolves will be able to keep oil offensively with the Lakers, who will hopefully be able to still have a solid scoring might against a bad Timberwolves defense.

Plus, this is kind of a trap game for the Lakers as well. This game is sandwiched between two big games against Denver and Brooklyn. It can be a bit hard to fully get up for a game in Minnesota when there is a marquee matchup against a potential Finals MVP up next.

The Los Angeles Lakers blew out the Minnesota Timberwolves the first time around the T-Wolves will be looking to get their vengeance.

They’ll ultimately get close but won’t finish the job, losing to the Lakers but covering the spread in the process.
