3 reasons why DeMarcus Cousins will likely re-join the Los Angeles Lakers
By Jason Reed
DeMarcus Cousins is one of the biggest what-if stories in recent Los Angeles Lakers history. Cousins signed with the Lakers prior to the 2019-20 season and the idea of him, LeBron James and Anthony Davis sharing the court was extremely exciting.
Cousins, unfortunately, suffered a torn ACL before the season even began, forcing the Lakers to pivot and sign Dwight Howard to form a tandem alongside JaVale McGee. Cousins stuck around on the roster until he was released so the team could sign Markieff Morris.
It ended up working out for the Lakers. Morris played really well in the playoffs and Howard did exactly what the team needed him to do so he could win his first championship. Many fans expected Cousins to re-sign in LA and he ultimately spurned the Lakers to sign a one-year deal with the Houston Rockets.
The what-if has not died. DeMarcus Cousins could soon rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Cousins and the Houston Rockets have mutually decided to part ways this season. With the move happening “in the coming days” we can assume that Cousins will be bought out as he cannot be traded until March 1, nine days from the time of Charania’s report.
There is a chance that we could still see the LeBron-Davis-Cousins threesome, and quite frankly, there is a fairly good chance that it will happen. Here are three reasons why DeMarcus Cousins re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers is likely.
