Is Damian Jones really an upgrade for the Los Angeles Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers recently signed big man Damian Jones. He was signed to a 10-day contract that is expiring at the NBA All-Star break.

Of course, this is a move that will not hurt the Lakers as he is on a short leash and it is a good thing. Jones has already played in three games and even started one of them. He did not score in the loss to the Sacramento Kings.

He only scored four points against the Suns and had eight points against his old team, the Golden State Warriors. Not really outstanding performances now were they? He also left the Golden State game with a strained back.

The eight points he scored against the Warriors was the most he has ever scored in a game this season. He has also never grabbed more than three rebounds in a game this year. Not such great stats for a guy who stands at six-foot-eleven.

Of course, he is on the lanky side as he only weighs 245 pounds. To be honest, that is not what the Lakers need right now, especially from a so-called big man. They need someone more boisterous. A banger. Jones is not that by far.

Damian Jones does not add anything to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jones has never averaged more than 5.4 points per game and 3.7 rebounds. He has been a career backup if that. Damian has never appeared in too many games to be honest. In five seasons, he has only played in 121 games. Once again, not the most eye-catching stats.

In my opinion, I cannot see him being a Laker much longer. From watching him, he clearly is underweight for his position. He needs to bulk up a bit more. Jones does not seem to be a threat at all and the Lakers need help around the basket more, especially with Anthony Davis out.

They do have the great Montrezl Harrell but they need to give him more help because God knows Marc Gasol is not providing it for them.

During the All-Star break, I do hope the Lakers make a few moves. It’s time to get rid of Gasol and Jones. They aren’t serving any purpose whatsoever. Kyle Kuzma has been a much better rebounder than both of them and he is smaller than they are.
