2. The Los Angeles Lakers roster is not as deep as we think

The Los Angeles Lakers entered the season with one of the deepest-looking rosters in the league. And while the season started off on the right note, the Lakers’ role players have been pretty bad this season.

In the playoffs, the Lakers should be fine. The rotation will shrink to eight or so guys and the team can look at Alex Caruso, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Kuzma and whoever else is hot off the bench. The problem is that it limits their versatility if they go that route and don’t bring anyone in.

Just look at the role players. Nearly every single one of them can be regarded as a disappointment this season. Harrell and Dennis Schroder have been good, Caruso has been his same self defensively and Kyle Kuzma has been a pleasant surprise.

MUST-READ: Ranking the Los Angeles Lakers’ biggest needs

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been wildly inconsistent and has come back down to earth after a red-hot start. Marc Gasol, while underrated defensively, has been terrible offensively. Wesley Matthews has been awful, Markieff Morris has played extremely poor and Talen Horton-Tucker has been inefficient offensively.

Of course, there is the chance of guys getting hot but the Lakers cannot be banking on that in the playoffs when the margin of error is so small. They need as many options as possible.
