Wayne Ellington

The Los Angeles Lakers add three-point shooting to the roster

Wayne Ellington is someone who we have discussed before here at Lake Show Life and in the month since we first covered the Lakers potentially acquiring Ellington it makes even more sense for the team to make a move.

The reason for acquiring Ellington is really quite simple: his three-point shooting. Ellington is shooting 42.2% from beyond the arc this season and is a career 38.1% shooter. He is not a fantastic defender and is not going to be a high-output guy.

He is someone who can make a three off-ball and if he gets hot at the right time — like Markieff Morris in the NBA Playoffs last year — he could be hugely impactful to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ellington’s contract is minuscule and the Lakers could get a deal done for something as small as Alzonzo McKinnie and a second-round pick. Heck, while his contract is small, it would not be totally surprising if the Pistons did Ellington a favor and bought him out so he could sign with a contender.

The Lakers could definitely use more three-point shooting depth. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been inconsistent and Wesley Matthews, Dennis Schroder, Markieff Morris and Talen Horton-Tucker have all shot below expectations this season.
