The Los Angeles Lakers were favorites to win the NBA Championship coming into the 2020-2021 season. However, they are currently sitting at the fourth seed in a highly competitive Western Conference.

This is due to star duo LeBron James and Anthony Davis being sidelined due to injuries. Along with this, the Lakers made a splash in the buyout market and signed former All-Star big man Andre Drummond. However, in his Lakers debut, he suffered a right toe contusion that kept him sidelined for a couple of games.

With Drummond back on the court, the Lakers hope to keep from sinking further in the standings until James and Davis can return.

This is not the state that a team pushing to become back-to-back champions would want to be in with the regular season shortly winding down to an end. However, it is where the Lakers find themselves.

Along with this, teams around the league have further bulked up their rosters since the Los Angeles Lakers took home the Larry O’Brien trophy.

With the Lakers still having one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the league, it would be preposterous to say that the season is anywhere near down the drain for the team. However, there are formidable foes for the Lakers in both conferences that could put a stop to their run of dominance.

There are three teams that could cause a major roadblock for the Lakers and shut down their title hopes if they are to face off in the playoffs.
