The season so far for the Los Angeles Lakers has been a rollercoaster. At times, the purple and gold have looked like the best team in the NBA. With a healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers were rolling and barely seemed to get out of 3rd gear to put teams away.
With Anthony Davis and LeBron James sidelined, things are very different.
While the superstars rest and get healthy, it has been the job of the Lakers role players to step up and keep the team afloat during the Lakers’ injury crisis.
They have struggled mightily to do that.
This is not uncommon for any team to struggle while their stars are out. The Lakers teams of the past struggled hugely when Kobe was off the floor. The Steph Curry-led Warriors were so bad without Curry and Thompson that they had a top-2 selection last year.
The Brooklyn Nets last year without KD and Kyrie were mediocre at best and were lucky to make the playoffs.
Simply put, you can’t expect to be a contender when your two best players are injured.
So what can the Los Angeles Lakers do?
Well, with the trade deadline now past, it is up for the purple and gold to wait until the offseason in order to improve the roster.
With minimal cap space moving forward, it is going to take some creativity from Rob Pelinka and co. to add to the Lakers after they get through the grind of this season.
Here are 3 players the purple and gold could potentially add this offseason.
