Los Angeles Lakers: What’s really going on with Andre Drummond
By Ronald Agers
Andre Drummond was brought in a support role to LeBron James and Anthony Davis… Remember?
In what world did the Los Angeles Lakers sign Andre Drummond to be a big offensive threat? The franchise did not sign him to be the franchise player to lead this team to the NBA title.
He’s not even going to be the third scorer, or fourth scoring option. When the roster is healthy, the Lakers have plenty of offensive players to choose from. Andre’s job is to rim protect, rebound and be the finisher on pick and roll alley-oop plays.
Here’s the pecking order for the Los Angeles Lakers.
- LeBron and AD will be the first and second options in their postseason.
- Next will be Dennis Schroder, who will be looking for his shot within the realm of the offense.
- Montrezl Harrell will get his chances off the bench playing on the left side of the floor and the dunker’s spot on the baseline.
- Kyle Kuzma can create his opportunities with the energy he showed before the stars got hurt crashing the offensive glass and knocking down the occasional 3 pointer.
If Drummond can consistently finish at the basket when needed and get easy baskets with offensive rebounds, run the floor and playing off the stars, he can easily collect 10-12 points and double figure rebounds.
Plus with the stars, Andre Drummond won’t ever see a double team. Why? These two guys will command the double teams.
The Los Angeles Lakers just need to lock Andre in a room and watch film of how JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard played last year. That’s the concept of what the Lakers want from their centers.
In short, if all things link up the way things were planned before Andre Drummond was signed, the Lakers will be top championship contenders and the other AD’s career will skyrocket.
But for now, it’s really easy to see why Andre Drummond is struggling for the last couple of games. Read on to see what the rest of the NBA is doing to figure out the Lakers new big man!
