With limited cap space and numerous roster needs this past offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers were in a legitimate bind to strengthen a team that had just won a record-tying 17th NBA Championship.

With LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the team, you already have a contender. Two of the best players in the NBA, James, and Davis pushed the purple and gold to the championship last season but with looming threats popping up across the league, it was essential that the purple and gold not only maintain what they had but to get even better to keep their place on the mountaintop.

The Los Angeles Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka really had his job cut out for him in improving this team.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Rob Pelinka blew it out of the water for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Dennis Schröder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, and Wesley Matthews headlined the haul Pelinka was able to bring to the Lakers in the off-season.

Add to that the additions of Andre Drummond and Ben McLemore in the buyout market and you can’t help but applaud Rob Pelinka for continuing to make the purple and gold better.

While we applaud Pelinka for his efforts, we must also look this coming offseason.

In the not too distant future, the Lakers will have to make choices about some of their own free agents. Here is part one of a two-part series, where we look at the free agents that the team should absolutely keep.
