Los Angeles Lakers point guard Alex Caruso is so valuable. If you have never seen him play, then you clearly wouldn’t know what I am talking about. Lakers fans all over know his true value. He is worth a lot, especially to this Laker team.
After clawing his way onto the roster and avoiding getting swooped up in the Anthony Davis trade, Caruso has become an integral part of what Frank Vogel wants to do on both ends of the floor.
It is about time he was named as a starter.
Yes, I know that we have the very talented Dennis Schroder and while he is a very good player, there has been a lot going on with him to be quite honest.
Especially with how he pushed aside the very generous extension that the Lakers offered him a few weeks back. Sure, Schroder was a very high-profile player that the Lakers had on their radar when they acquired him this past off-season. There have been times when he has shined and other times when many have questioned his play.
Frank Vogel on Alex Caruso (out with back spasms tonight):
— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) April 28, 2021
"Alex is one of the best defensive guards in the league.”
In defensive rating, Caruso ranks 2nd in the NBA (101.1), behind only Mike Conley (99.9) [min. 10 games played and 15 mpg].
Lakers: Alex Caruso should start over Dennis Schroder.
Caruso on the other hand, has started the last two games has shown us that even though it has been a measly two games, he fits in as a starter very well. Caruso has a more familiar feel for this team than Schroder who is just in his first year with the Lakers.
That being said, these last two games, Caruso has looked like the player we always knew he was capable of being as he runs the floor and the offense much like a very cerebral general. Sure, he may make mistakes at times and perhaps turn the ball over, but he makes up for it on the other side as he is always hustling and chugging on.
How can you not enjoy him? He can run, shoot, pass, and dazzle. Caruso can also get his hops on as he can jump. To be quite honest, I wouldn’t be surprised at the season’s end if the Lakers let Schroder walk and keep Caruso as their future point guard. Look, Schroder is very good but balking at 84 million dollars? C’mon now.
When Schroder returns, he should the Lakers down the stretch and shows why he came to Los Angeles. We know he has tremendous amounts of talent.
That being said, there is another part of me that is always pulling for Alex Caruso as he is the ultimate hard-working and always hustling underdog that not just the NBA but the entire world of sports need more of. In the end, it sure is great to have them both now, isn’t it?

Lakers: These next few games are most important for LA
These last nine games of the NBA season are most important for the Los Angeles Lakers, who need to avoid the play-in tournament.
